Virginia H. Newman, 101, of Lewiston, NY, died Tuesday, January 1, 2024 at Elderwood Nursing Facility Cheektowaga, NY. She was born February 17, 1922 in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Henry and Belle (Kujawa) Newman.
She graduated from the former St. Mary's Academy in Dunkirk and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Miss Newman was an elementary teacher in the Niagara Falls School District from 1943, until her retirement in 1982. She taught at the former Pacific Avenue School, the former 13th Avenue Street School, the former Beech Avenue School and Hyde Park School.
She moved to Lewiston in 1985 where she was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church. She belonged to the Niagara Falls Retired Teachers Association, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and the Rainbow Club.
She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years and also volunteered at the Niagara Falls Library Gift Shop. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her niece Donna (late Garrett) Newman-Milks, two great-nieces, 2 great-nephews, 2 great grand nephews and 4 great grandnieces and several cousins.
She was the sister of the late Charles (late Jean) Newman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 10.00AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street Lewiston, NY.
Interment in Willowbrook Park Cemetery, Dunkirk, New York.
