William Lynn Dobbs

Trustee William Lynn Dobbs, 75, passed away quietly at his home on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

“Lynn,” as he was known, was born August 1, 1947, in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of William Lee Dobbs and Esther Lavon White Dobbs.  His family lived in Niagara Falls, NY as he was growing up.   Upon completion of high school (Trott Vocational School), he pursued a career in Mortuary Science.  He graduated from Simmons School of Mortuary Science and became a Licensed Funeral Director.   He worked for The House of Genesis in Buffalo, NY and Lattimore Funeral Home in Rochester, NY.  He went on to manage & operate the following: Genesee, Regency & Metropolitan Funeral Homes all in Rochester.  He was known for his impeccable work ethic, caring personality & ability to bring comfort and had an infectious smile. His most recent place of employment was at Niagara Falls State Park at the Maid of The Mist attraction.  Being there brought him so much joy because he was privileged to engage with people from all around the world, Lynn "never met a stranger" and could talk to someone he had just met, for hours. 

He married the former Charmaine Collins in 1982.  To this union, 3 children were born in Rochester, NY.  

In 1958, he was water-baptized in Jesus’ name & filled with the Holy Ghost at Emmanuel Temple under the pastorate of the late Bishop William Crossley. He attended Power House Church of God in Christ in Rochester, NY where he faithfully served as a Minister. He was a dedicated servant of the church, as well as the community. Lynn was a faithful and devoted Trustee and Minister of Christ Redemption Tabernacle Church, in Niagara Falls, NY under the pastorate of his cousin, Bishop Kevin Dobbs beginning in 2006.  During his membership at CRT, he served diligently in several capacities including Mighty Men of Valor, Sunday School Teacher, Custodial Team, Finance Officer, Transportation Ministry, Usher Board, Greeters Ministry, and anywhere else his help was needed.  He embodied the true example of an individual operating in the Ministry of Helps. Trustee Lynn could always be found on and off the CRT campus serving, conversing, and offering encouragement with his wit, humor, laughter, and love for people. He left an unforgettable impact on the lives of those he encountered.

He later married Michelle Dyer in 1995 and 3 children were birthed from this union, living in Atlanta, GA.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his seven children, Margaret, Michael, Jonathan, Chloe, Jesse, Jhané & Adrienne Dobbs, his siblings, Russell (Linda) Cook of Fairmont, WV, Robert L. Dobbs of San Francisco, CA, Marlene Kirk of Youngstown, OH, Celeste Anderson of Stone Mountain, GA, Justin M. Tillman Dobbs and Larecus Chapman Dobbs; 3grandchildren, Caydence, Jonathan & Taylor Dobbs and a host of nieces & nephews, along with family & friends.
