Robert M. Stefik

Robert M. Stefik, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 9th, 2008, at his residence.

He was born in Madison, WI, on October 8, 1923, the son of the late Paul J. and Jolan [Drotar] Stefik. Bob moved to Niagara Falls, NY with his family as a child. He graduated from both St. Mary's High School and Niagara University, where he played on each schools football team as well as their other sports teams. Bob served with the US ARMY during World War II, in the European Theatre.

He played one season in 1948 with the Buffalo Bills as a kicker. Also in 1948 Bob began his real estate career with Edward Noonan and later started Stefik Realty which he continued to operate for the past 60 years. Bob was active in Realtor organizations, serving as the Niagara Falls Area Board President in 1959, and as a director of the Greater Buffalo Board of Realtors for nine years, served a president of the New York State Society of Real Estate Appraisers and a director of the National Association of Realtors. In 2006 Bob received the Realtor Emeritus Designation from the National Association of Realtors.

He was also active in the community and served on many boards including the Niagara Falls Boy's club, Junior Achievement, The Cerebral Palsy Association, SPUR, the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital Board of Associates, Niagara University Council, the Niagara Falls Rotary Club, M&T Bank and Ticor Title Company Advisory boards. He enjoyed playing golf and was active in other sports.

Bob was the husband of the late Rosemary A. [Kay] Stefik, who died in November of 2002.

He is survived by threes sons Robert M. Stefik,II, William A. Stefik and David W. (Kathleen) Stefik all of Lewiston, NY, two daughters: Kathleen M. Stefik of Miami, FL and Mary Anne E. (Ronald) Henderson of Sarasota, FL, one granddaughter Sian Elizabeth Stefik, one sister Georgine Martel of Florida, brother in law of Donald (Joyce) Kay, Richard F. Kay, Jean K. Kellick, Mildred Kay, Francis Quinn and Joyce Kay, he is also survived by many nieces and Bob was the brother of the late Joseph W., Stanley and Paul J. Stefik, Marie Hildebrand, Julia Penn and Marcella Dean.

The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Cayuga and South Ninth Streets, LEWISTON, NY, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 600 Center Street, Lewiston, with the Rev. Sebastian C. Pierro and Msgr. Thomas J. Moran officiating. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 5269 Lewiston, Road, Lewiston, NY. Interment with Military Honor in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
