George Armitage

George was called to be with his Savior on September 13 under the loving care of Hospice.

He and his wife of 34 years, Marijean (DeVita-Mettler) moved from Youngstown, NY to Estero, FL in 2004.

George graduated from Niagara Falls High School and Niagara University (magna cum laude).   He was a Certified Public Accountant in Niagara Falls.  He expanded his firm, forming the partnership of Armitage, Swiantek and Falbo CPA’s, he retired in 2001.

George was an Adjunct Professor teaching Accounting at Niagara University.  

George was a life member of NY State CPA Association.  He was past president of the LaSalle Businessmen Association and The Niagara Club. He served on  several Board of Directors.  

George enlisted in the 107th FIG NYANG.  He served 8 months in Korea in 1968 as Accounting Finance Officer where he taught English Conversation.  He also belonged to the NY State Guard. He was promoted to Combat Support Squadron Commander in 1980..  He retired as Lt. Col after 39 years of service to his country.    In FL, he became an Associate Member of the Marine Corps League in Naples, FL, who will be honoring him.

In addition to his loving wife, Marijean, George is survived by his children, Deborah (Tom) Hicks of Gasport, NY, Bruce Armitage of Pittsburgh, PA, David Mettler of Spartanburg, SC, Mark Mettler of Estero, FL  granddaughter, Lara Maloney of CO.     He is pre-deceased by his parents, Julia (Richardson) and George Armitage, a brother, Leighton (Army) and a grandson, Christopher Maloney.

An Honor Guard ceremony celebrating his service to his country was held at Hospice, attended by family and friends.

Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
